In celebration of the (official) start of summer, we present some classic summer songs (see links at bottom for other Playlist Thursday posts)!
Here is the format:
Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Artist: Bryan Adams
Title: Summer of ’69
Side Note: Take a trip down memory lane and rock out to this. I can’t really relate to the summer of 69… so I’ll leave it to you to fill in the gaps.
Quotable: “That summer seemed to last forever .And if I had the choice Ya – I’d always wanna be there. Those were the best days of my life ”
Artist: Carly Rae Jepsen
Title: Call Me Maybe
Side Note: The hottest song this summer, short of Bieber and 1D. I resisted putting this on here, but I am a victim to pop songs on my runs. I flat out love em. I can’t explain it. I have Britney, Miley, Gaga, you name it. They make my feet run faster and who am I to argue with results. By 28 seconds it gets catchy as hell, damnit.
Quotable: “I threw a wish in the well, Don’t ask me, I’ll never tell”
Artist: Vanilla Ice
Title: Ice, Ice Baby
Side Note: How do you cool off from the summer heat? With some ICE, ICE BABY. I know the lyrics and so do you. Don’t be ashamed. This song was running the world in the 90s. With Queen’s Under Pressure sampled, this song is “too cold, too cold.”
Quotable: “To the extreme I rock a mic like a vandal. Light up a stage and wax a chump like a candle.”
Don’t forget to check out some other Playlist Thursday posts.
If you also did one, let me know and I’ll include it. Until next week…
