At some point in December, I decided an ornament exchange amongst us runners and fitness fanatics on social media would be a good idea. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, but we threw it together and it seemed to have went well. I enjoyed seeing all the creativity behind the ornaments and seeing so many different and unique ones being shared on social.

Here is a quick backstory on the the idea behind the ornament exchange: a few years back I was part of another ornament exchange amongst fitness friends and I received an ornament that was a pair of cowboy boots with Alaska written on them (the person was I received it from lived in Alaska). SUPER random ornament but it’s on my tree every year and I love it. I wanted to re-create that same experience for all of you. So I encouraged people to send an ornament that was unique to where they were from that had some character. For example, I drew Karen, aka @funnerrunner’s mom, and sent her a sparkly San Francisco cable car — and just like that a new tradition was born.

Note: the @ names below are the Instagram handles (or twitter) of the person that received it.

Second Note: we had over 100 people take part, but received only photos from half of the participants.

The New Tradition

Thank you to everyone that was a part of the fun. We are planning to do it again in 2017 and we’ll promote it further in advance and try to get more people involved.

Cheers to the holiday season.
