Here we go again… sorry, but the first two don’t have official videos. That could be a good thing. Perhaps I’m introducing you to something new.
As always, here is the format:
- Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
- Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
- Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Something Old
Artist: Incubus
Title: A Certain Shade of Green
Side Note: Incubus was really popular during my college years… and if you know who they are and can do the backwards math, I have just dated myself. I saw them a few times in concert, including one epic show at The Fillmore. I found this song as an accident when I hit shuffle on my entire playlist during a run and it’s been in rotation ever since.
Quotable: “All signs around say move ahead. Could someone please explain to me your ever present lack of speed?” Lack of speed? Sounds like a challenge. Run FASTER!
Something Current
Artist: Eminem
Title: Cinderella Man
Side Note: Eminem, a playlist favorite of mine, makes his first appearance. You might have thought it would be “Lose Yourself,” but that is too obvious. This one is carried by the beat and his lyrics are crazy on this song. Totally gets me pumped mid run.
Quotable: “F*** catchin lighting, he struck it. Screamed shut up at thunder. Then flipped the world upside down and made it rain upward.”
Something to Consider
Artist: The Ting Tings
Title: That’s Not My Name
Side Note: Finally, an actual music video. You may remember this from the iPod commercials a few years back when the silhouettes were dancing? Well, this is it. Great song to run to and, if you feel like it, break into a dance mid run. That’s like cross training, right?
Quotable: “They call me quiet girl. But I’m a riot girl.”
Alright, as always, what did you think? Are any of these already on your mobile record player device?
these artists are already on my player/device. so kind of. thanks for the new tunage.
incubus rocks. LOL i’m old too.
I like that Incubus song. I actually own that (gasp!) compact disc. <– yeah, still have those things kickin' around in my car
Love that Incubus song. One of my favourites. I do NOT like their new stuff though.
They play that Eminem song all the time at my gym annnnd now it’s stuck in my head! lol
I don’t have any of these songs on my playlist but I do have two of the artists listed on my iPod :)
This is quickly becoming a favorite series to check out on Thursdays! I haven’t heard Incubus in forever, must dig into the archives!
I’m working on creating a new workout play list! Slowly but surely adding on some songs :)
Love that Ting Tings song!! I went with Old School Punk Rock today: http://runningonipsum.com/running/playlist-thursday-old-school-punk-rock
And, of course, none of mine are actual videos either. One is a camcorder recording of an MTV video – which is so relevant to the theme, and incredibly memorable for me. So much fun. I’m back!
Aaaaand the Ting Tings will be in my head for the rest of the day. Thanks for that. :)
Thanks for the new song suggestions! If you saw my post today, you know that is where my head’s at right now. We must be kindred blogging spirits!
You got me this week except for Eminem. I’m totally an Incubus fan. The Ting Tings, that’s not my name, was my go to song when I did an elliptical workout a few years ago. Great beat!
