‘Tis the season for giving… and for inspiring young runners.
Giveaway: a case of books to a non-profit of your choice!
I’ve been given the opportunity to help spread the joy of running, but in a different kind of way. A friend of mine wrote a children’s book called “We Are Girls Who Love to Run” and has offered to share a case (24 copies) with a non-profit of your choice. How awesome is that?
It’s fairly simple:
- In the comments, list a non-profit of your choice that you would like the books delivered to (within the US).
- On Friday, I’ll randomly select and announce the winner (1). It will then be delivered directly to the non-profit selected.
Here is a note that the author shared with me:
“I just really want to help spread the joy of running with the next generation and think that by reaching out to non-profits, it will be spread to those who really need the uplifting message. Also, I think this is a fun way for runners to pay it forward!”
If you would like to purchase a personal copy of “We Are Girls Who Love to Run” it can be ordered through Amazon — the perfect holiday gift.
If you have a second:
Please visit their Facebook page and click LIKE — this is not a requirement for entry, just a great way to see some of the great things surrounding this amazing book.
Here is the (partial) description of the book on Amazon:
“We Are Girls Who Love to Run uses running to inspire girls to build healthy habits and achieve goals. Vibrant watercolor illustrations celebrate real girls with different body styles who find satisfaction in daily life experiences.”
The book is also bilingual (spanish), which was one of my favorite things about it.
Here is a portion of a review I did for the book back in 2009.
“We Are Girls Who Love to Run covers a wide spectrum of experiences of several young girls who are bonded not only by their love of running, but share a strong confidence in their daily lives. From staying healthy, to chores, to a friend moving; Brianna is able to start off each page with an “I am…” empowering statement that exudes personal strength not only from the girls in the story, but for the reader.”
I’m really excited to share this with you and to help encourage young children to not only read, but to motivate them to leading a healthier lifestyle — especially through the joy of running.
Thanks again Brianna. If you would like you copy to be signed by the author, feel free to e-mail her before ordering. She can be reached at girlsrunning[at]hotmail[dot]com
Good luck to all.
Updated: The randomly chosen winner was Harmony (Alternatives to Violence). Thank you to everyone that took the time to enter. All are worthy causes and I was happy to be a part of spreading the joy of running.
The winner will be chosen Thursday night (12/13 at 8 p.m. PST) and will be announced Friday morning.

This is just awesome! Ok, my favorite charity is Ulman Cancer Fund, but…my second favorite is a local one called Bridges to Housing Stability that helps keep people from homelessness. I can’t help but think a book like this could be pretty inspiring for some little girls in their client base. Thanks for sharing.
This is awesome. I would love for the non profit, Alternatives to Violence to ein! They provides domestic violence and sexual assault/abuse serivices as well safety houses. I worked there ss my first job out of college.
I hate to admit this, but I don’t have a favorite charity. :(
Instead, I’ll second Harmony’s suggestion – Alternatives to Violence. If I win, please contact her.
Girls On The Run group in Columbia, SC. They teach girls to run and address self este and other issues for girls in 2nd through 8th grades.
LOVE this!!! My favorite charity (right now) is the Stephen Siller Foundation – this would be great for those who lost everything from the hurricane!! =)
Krissy sent me here and I think that this is an awesome giveaway!
My favorite non-profit is Girls on the Run-DC. I was a coach with the North Florida chapter for 3 seasons and just completed an internship with the DC chapter. The DC chapter serves over 900 girls at around 70 schools across the entire District. Over 60% of the girls are on scholarship, meaning that they are receiving some (but in most cases, all) of their program fees paid for through fundraising efforts.
Many of these girls are in schools that have very low ratings. I think getting a copy of this book in the hands of the coaches that volunteer at these schools would be very beneficial. Not only can they read the book to the girls at the first practice, but then maybe they can donate the book to the school library afterwards so other girls can read it.
Regardless of who wins, I think that this is an awesome giveaway! Good luck to all!
Love this idea!!!
My favorite charity is Girls on the Run, however my vote will go towards Michelle’s idea. I think helping the hurricane victims is an amazing choice.
FYI – Molly Barker, the Founder and Vision Keeper of Girls on the Run wrote the foreword for We Are Girls Who Love to Run! :) Can’t wait to see who wins! – Brianna
