As many of you know, I’m taking a break from racing. Not running, just racing. I ran 8 races in the first half of the year with 6 of those being marathon distance or longer… I needed to let my body heal. Around last week I started getting the “itch” to run some longer distances.
Since Father’s Day, June 16, I haven’t done any distance longer than 10.5 miles (give or take). It’s only been a month and my legs are already wanting to go a little further. My base is still solid, but it’s time to get back into the 18 mile territory.
As part of the New-Skin promotion team, I’ve been able to take advantage of their products and make sure that the blister concerns from the 50 mile race don’t come back like they did at the San Diego Marathon. Thanks to the Liquid Bandage (above) I was able to run the SF marathon 2 weeks later without any issues.
To date, it hasn’t become a problem, but if I knew I was going to be on the road longer than a couple hours, I would probably apply some Liquid Bandage to make sure I’m on the safe side… which is actually what I’ll do this weekend. Either Saturday or Sunday morning, I think a nice 15 mile run is in order… yep, I’m making up my schedule as I write this. LOL.
My next race is Labor Day weekend, the Disney Dumbo Double Dare (10k Sat., Half Sunday), and I’ll have to make sure I’m ready to run strong on both days. New-Skin will be in my suitcase to make sure I’m ready to go as it’s always best to travel prepared than to find yourself scrambling to find a unsure solution. The anti-chafing spray may come in handy depending on what I decide my costume will be. Any issues I face on Saturday are going to be multiplied on Sunday. Better safe than sorry.
