Jumping right into it this week with a brand new theme. Let’s see, we did POP two weeks ago and Hip Hop last week, that means it’s time for some ROCK.
Here we go.
Same format:
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Could be old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old
Artist: Billy Squier
Title: The Stroke
Side Note: If you were paying attention last week, in Eminem’s new song Berzerk there is a sample of this song that is used perfectly. Nothing like a really good sample to make you appreciate the original. Cheers Billy.
Quotable: “Everybody, have you heard?”
Something Current
Artist: NIN
Title: Came Back Haunted
Side Note: Do kids still remember NIN? What if I said “the guy that did the music for the Social Network, or The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo movies…” Either way, Trent Reznor is the man. Alternative/rock/techno/whatever he decides to mix up, it’s some good stuff. New album just released this week.
Quotable: “I don’t think I’ll be coming back”
Something to Consider
Artist: The Strokes
Title: Last Nite
Side Note: I can listen to their 2001 album “Is This It” start to finish and never skip a song…. that’s how “into” that album I was. This was the main singe, but any song is a good one to run some miles to.
Quotable: “I keep walkin’ for miles”
I somehow managed to work in a song called The Stroke and the band The Strokes… yep, I’m THAT good.
Since we are talking about “Rock” don’t forget about the $10 off Rock ‘n’ Roll coupons.
I’m going to have a great post scheduled for Friday about what it means to be “that kind of CRAZY runner.” Vague enough? It’ll be a good one, trust me.
What are you listening to now?
Do you miss GOOD rock music?

Love that song by the strokes!
Good stuff! I’m a fan of rock, but I’ll have to admit, I’m not so crazy about most of the new stuff. (Geeze, when did I start sounding so old???)
I used to listen to a lot of rock, though I haven’t lately. I’ve been listening to Lindsay Sterling lately. Electronic with acoustic violin.
Love Trent Reznor, crazy to see how much he has changed since our youth. Great list!
I don’t generally listen to music when I work out. However, this morning there was an interesting chick in the gym who decided to forgo her headphones and just blair her music for the whole gym (okay, it’s a small room) to hear… THANKFULLY I sort of liked the music she was playing, so it helped me along… But I DON’T GENERALLY LIKE WHEN PEOPLE DO THAT and I give them an evil glare the entire time they’re in there… Typically scares them off! Muahhh ha ha ha ha ha ha!
LOVE that song by The Strokes. :)
Billy, NIN, and the Strokes! All my faves! I already had Billy and the Strokes on my iPhone…..downloading some new NIN RIGHT NOW!
I heard that Rock vs. Pop goes through alternating peaks and valleys on a 12 year cycle; with Boy Bands once again roaming the earth, guess what part we’re in now?
For running to the Strokes, I like Reptilia… it has a hard driving urgency to it. And I like the With Teeth album for NIN (Hand that Feeds and Only are on my running playlists). I recently discovered the Japandroids for running; try The House That Heaven Built (“Anyone tries to slow you down… tell ’em all to go to hell”) and The Nights of Wine and Roses.
Great list! the strokes rock!
Here’s a running playlist which helps me a lot while running!
