Ready to mix up your playlist for 2014? This list starts off one place and ends in a whole other realm… just go with it.
Same rules:
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old
Artist: Foreigner
Title: Juke Box Hero
Side Note: You’re welcome. That’s right. I just kicked off 2014 with some Foreigner. Honest? This song IS NOT on my playlist. But when I hear this on the radio or where ever I am, when it hits the chorus, I wanna hold up my hand high and ROCK!
Quotable: That one guitar, felt good in his hands
Something Current
Artist: Zendaya
Title: Replay
Side Note: Really digging the chorus…. and a shout out to a Bay Area native. Catchy song and pretty standard radio play. Check it out.
Additional Side Note: Wanna feel old? She was born in 1996.
Quotable: I wanna put you on repeat, play you everywhere I go.
Something to Consider
Artist: Cash Cash feat. Bebe Rexha
Title: Take Me Home
Side Note: I know this is another one of those Electronic Dance Music (EDM – Thanks @SeeSharpRun) songs, but I’ve been adding these onto my playlist slowly and they seem to keep me running at a pretty good pace, so more keep getting added. Try adding one in… you might like it. If not, just hit skip and then send me a tweet telling me how I destroyed your playlist and had to stop running.
Quotable: I’m falling to pieces. But I need this.
There you have it. Three songs that would be happy to live on your playlist… I mean, if you are running around for 4-5 hours, it’s nice to have something new or different on there. I’m going to try to post more of these for 2014. Everyone seems to enjoy them, so we’ll get back to them more regularly.
One more video
A friend of mine shared this video with me. She described it as “touching” and I wanted to get your thoughts. My apologies, as this Avril Lavigne song may get stuck in your head.
What do you think of this commercial? – will open in a new window.
Are you ready to revamp your playlist?
What did you think of the commercial?
DUDE! Loving the Zendaya song! NEVER heard her sing before! Didn’t even know who she was, other than being the youngin’ on Dancing with the Stars!!! Good God – 1996, I am a grandma.
re: commercial – at first i was sad because his knees were bloodied and by the end i was in tears!!!! (no not just pregnancy hormones!) what a FABULOUS commercial – i absolutely LOVE it!!!!
Great commercial, but geez, call an ambulance for that guy! He’s wheezing! :)
It’s not Avril Lavigne stuck in my head – it’s Juke Box Hero… :-) Although I only know 6 words. Thanks for that. :-)
Juke Box Hero is on one of my running playlists too – love it!
Zendaya is someone new I have never heard of. Like that song though.
I don’t think I’m digging the Zendaya song, but I find that I need several listens to really appreciate new songs. That said, I think I like the Cash Cash song.
My Current song (also my guilty pleasure) is Gypsy by Lady Gaga (My family moved a lot growing up, so I really connect with it.). My 5+ song is (cliche and uninspired!) Eye of the Tiger. For something to consider, I’m a big fan of Pentatonix acapella Daft Punk remix.
Fantastic commercial! That Avril Lavigne song suddenly has new meaning to me and may become part of my mantra for 2014 as I work towards running my first full marathon in over 10 years.
I’m with you on Foreigner. Not quite good enough for a playlist but fist in the air when I hear them on the radio. I’d prefer “Hot Blooded” but “Juke Box Hero” is just as good.
Both “Replay” and “Take Me Home” are on the playlist I made for my spin class this week! #greatminds
Oh Juke Box Hero FOR Sure! I have one class I teach with a classic rock pandora station it’s a hit! This Zendaya song has been all over the disney channel FOREVER. My children even get it stuck in their heads! Nice job Disney it’s on repeat here. Nice mix!
NO way. Jukebox Hero! The best. And I like Replay but thank you for making me feel ancient.
