There was a football game last Sunday, a super one. And it seems like a natural progression to have THIS week’s Playlist Thursday be by artists that have previously performed at the Super Bowl Halftime show. Let’s get right down to it with three songs to add to your workout playlist:

Same format as always:

  • Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
  • Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
  • Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category.

Something Old:

Artist: Missy Elliot
Super Bowl Performance: 2015
Title: Work It
Side Note: Sorry Katy, but Missy stole your halftime show. This song was 2009, which isn’t too long ago, but it seems like forever. That Timbaland beat is still hot, and if you don’t know ’bout Missy, know ya do. #supadupafly
Quotable: “Is it worth it, let me work it. I put my thang down, flip it and reverse it”

Something Current:

Artist: Rihanna, Kanye West, Paul McCartney
Super Bowl Performance: Paul McCartney, 2015
Side Note: They would NEVER let Kanye do the Halftime show, imagine? But this trio comes together for an interesting song. I don’t think many of will add it to their playlist WHILE they are working out, but it’s a great song to stretch to before or after a workout, especially if you think of it as FourFiveSeconds away from working out. The more I hear it, the more it grows on me.
Quotable: “Now I’m FourFiveSeconds from wildin’”

Something to Consider:

Artist: Beyonce
Super Bowl Performance: 2013
Title: Move Your Body
Side Note: I know we’ve all heard of Beyonce, but in the world of her awesomeness, this was not one of her more “popular” songs (and it’s workout themed). And I’m just going to say that it looks like she is wearing Pro Compression socks.
Quotable: “Mission One, let me see you run. Put your knees up in the sky ’cause we just begun”

There you have it. Some SUPER performances. I could have easily added in a number of different Missy or Beyonce songs, so if this post inspired you to dig through your records, cassette tapes, compact discs, or hard drives, then I’vedone my job.
