When I was asked to review Mondetta Performance Gear, I was pretty excited. It’s great when promotional images and advertising can get you excited about a product before you’ve even tried anything on. The images on their website, did just that.
I was lucky enough to be able to choose a few items. I have plenty of running shirts, but was really interested in their LIFESTYLE line. When I’m done running or working out, I’m really quick to put on dry clothes and just relax. Rather than just throwing on a dumpy shirt, I wanted to be able to wear something that says I live an “active lifestyle” but is also “comfortable.”
Propel (Heather Charcoal)
Active lifestyle wool jersey pullover hoody
- Fabric: 70% polyester, 30% wool lightweight brushed back jersey, 170 gsm
- Performance seam construction
- Oversized hood
- Wide cuff and waistband
- Thumbhole feature in sleeve cuff
- Contrast necktape
- Classic fit
When I saw this in their collection, it immediately screamed at me. I love throwing on a hoody. It is flat out one of my favorite things to wear. I also like to wear the hoody “half on.” (see the first photo) Ya, that’s how I roll. What I love about this is that it is comfortable enough to wear AND has an “active” look. It isn’t big and bulky like you would think a hoody may be. This one is light and form fitting. I run a lot of miles and I’m proud of it. I enjoy having the look of an athlete — at least that is “the look” I think I give off. I have worn the Propel at least once a week since it arrived. I was even wearing it when I met Kara Goucher and Shalane Flanagan. Did I also mention that it has thumb holes? This is one of my other favorite things in a piece of apparel. I love sliding my thumbs in there. I guess that goes with my “half on” look, too!
Swerve (Heather Charcoal)
Active lifestyle wool jersey top
- Fabric: 70% polyester, 30% wool lightweight brushed back jersey, 170 gsm
- Performance seam construction
- Wide cuff and hem
- Contrast necktape
- Raised rubber logo on upper back
- Classic fit
The one thing that drew me to this piece was the slight V in the neck. I typically don’t wear a v-neck anything, but this one seemed subtle enough for me to give it a try. I’m glad I did. It has the exact same feel as the “Propel,” which means it’s super comfy. The color is also classy and straightforward. I actually have worn this to work a couple of times with some slacks and have received several compliments. I’ve also worn this post run to keep me warm. Best of both worlds. It has a nice stitch pattern going down the back which adds some character to the design. It’s light, comfortable and the slight v in the neck doesn’t go down far enough to require you to wear an undershirt.
The last item I’m going to review today is a pair of workout shorts. I’m always on the lookout for new running shorts. I’ve mentioned it before that most men’s running shorts are a solid color, which can be very monotonous. Anytime I see something that is different from the normal, my interest is immediately piqued.
Soar (Heather Charcoal/Black)
Performance jersey workout short with color block panel detail.
- Fabric: Performance Jersey – 88% polyester, 12% spandex, 295 gsm
- Heathered jersey: Heavy Melange Jersey – 48% nylon, 40% polyester, 12% spandex, 270 gsm
- Contrast side panel and drawcord detail
- 2 side pockets
- Classic fit, 8″ inseam
The first thing I noticed about these when I put them on was the length. I DO NOT wear short running shorts. You’ll never see me in 70’s jogging shorts. Not gonna happen. I also can’t run in long shorts or basketball shorts. These shorts were the perfect length. I actually wish all my running shorts were this same length. When I’m standing still they go to about the half-way point of the knee. That means when I am running, they are sitting above the knee, but not all the way up my thigh. No one wants to see that.
The second thing I noticed was that they had some weight to them. They are not what I would call a “heavy” short, but they are definitely not a “light” short. They work out perfectly for runs in San Francisco where it can be chilly enough to consider pants, but sunny enough to be perfect for shorts. I’ve taken these on a few 6-7 mile runs and they have worked out great. I’d be interested to see how they do on some longer distances. The other thing I liked was that these had a second color added across the upper back and down the sides. It also had a sharp red draw string which really stands out. This was one of the key features (yes, I consider fashion to be a key feature) about the shorts. I don’t like solid color running shorts, so these were passing the “eyeball test.”
Mondetta Performance Gear was 3 for 3 on this review. I enjoyed the comfort, look and style of all three items. I’ve also received compliments on each of them on separate occasions. I guess I can pull of the “athlete look.”
Be sure to check out their complete line of men’s and women’s clothing. Styles include tops, bottoms, jackets and pullovers. They also have a weekly and monthly GET FIT GIVEAWAY that is free to enter. Throw your name in the mix and score some cool gear.
I was not compensated for this review, but I was given the articles of clothing at no cost. All opinions are my own and 100% honest. I’m sure if they were someone else’s opinions they would be better written or more humorous.
What do you think of the MPG line on first glance?
What’s your favorite thing to wear post-workout?

What? No butt flapping short shorts??? ;)
I think men really get the short end of the stick when it comes to workout attire. It usually all looks the same. The MPG line looks great and it sounds like it can perform. Hubs might be getting some for his birthday!
Sounds like the perfect gift. Check out their giveaway, you can win YOUR OWN!
haha that first picture with the dos equis quote made me lol this morning :)
glad to help bring laughter to your morning.
FIRST GLANCE?
I
COVET.
they DO need you as their SpokesDad.
I second that!
Thanks you two…
And thus a modeling career was launched! Great looking stuff and it’s nice that someone pays attention to men’s fashion for once!
us fellas want to look nice, too!
Who knew we had a model in our midst! In the cooler months I love to bundle up post run in fleece! This collection looks so cozy but not dumpy…like I could still get my cozy feel but not feel like “What Not to Wear” was going to ambush me at the grocery store! Love it!!
the trip to the grocery store always gets us.
haa love your over exaggerated running photo. I did that once and it ended up in a magazine! gah. embarrassing.
This was such a great review post! I love all the pictures, their gear sounds and looks awesome! Post workout I’m super gross and stay in my workout clothes way longer than I mean to, I need to get better about showering and changing immediately!
Ummm…your pics and promo are awesome. That is all.
p.s. Looks comfy and FUbulous to me!
Very cool, thanks for the review. My husband is always trying to find that perfect short length too. And I love the photos! You should be their ad model/spokesperson!
Thanks. It’s a fine line with the length of shorts. A half-inch can make all the difference.
I haven’t seen MPG’s lifestyle line but LOVE it! I love that it’s a wool blend to keep you nice and warm and toasty. I keep going back to their website because 1) their stuff looks great and 2) I’m hoping that my husband will take the hint that we could buy me some MPG gear for Christmas. And, the last picture? Awesome.
Thanks. Yes, extremely comfortable to wear AND keeps you warm (important in SF).
Look at you all professional in your photos!! Great write up!! I think I will have to check them out to see if it is something my husband would like :)
I agree with those above, you could (and SHOULD) totally be their ad/model spokesperson!!
Maybe you should work in advertising? I couldn’t resist pinning =) Btw was that pic of you wearing soar shorts taken before or after your 38 miles? Just curious haha. Bravo on the review!
The run in the shorts was after. Trust me, photos of me mid-38 mile run would not have looked pleasant.
Looking good! (**hear the catcalls). :) I never thought about the short length issue for guys but I bet there are few choices that are longer. I, personally, prefer to see some leg on a guy and maybe a little butt. NOT!! Wear your long shorts!
I am always on the hunt for “wearable” gear. Running around after B, well I prefer it in workout clothes, I like that MPG is versatile and I am sorta jealous there is no women’s hoodie!!
These pictures are gorgeous – I kind want these for myself now, but I guess my hubby would probably enjoy these clothes more!
They have a women’s line. One for you, one for him. TWINS!
awesome photos in addition to the review. teach me, wise one! :) the products look super comfy-and i agree-always looking for comfy, cool active-like wear.
Great pics, indeed! Sounds cozy, great review :)
I am sold, this looks like an amazing line. My husband will love! What a great post
oh you made me laugh with that quote, but then again you also do. Nice review!
Awesome review! I think I need the hoodie. I’m a girl, but typically men’s tops fit me better because I’m tall, broad shoulders…just generally fit for field work :) Women’s shirts never fit me anyway.
Great review. I’d steal that hoodie from my husband if he owned it!
I think YOU should be a Mondetta model!
Great review! Looks very comfy and I love the color, hubby would love this stuff.
Perfect for the holidays…. one for you, two for me. (repeat)
I’m pinning that “the world is your treadmill” image- I love it! Great review- I hadn’t heard of Mondetta before now.
Well, it looks like you a new career starting as a model! All of those items sound great and look fashionable and comfortable.
I’ve actually got quite a few pieces of MPG gear and LOVE all of them! Your post makes me want to go shopping for more! Thanks for the MPG reminder!
We should have a MPG group run!
I have a pair of Electrolyte MPG shorts that I love to wear running!!
After a long run and a shower I love to wear loose/comfortable clothing. I’m wondering if I should try some compression!
So comfortable to run in!
Total legit SpokesDad. Love their line and now that the hubs is back on the workout wagon, he’s onto my game and wants his own gear. Christmas shopping, done.
This was a great review!
you should totally become a spokesmodel and do commercials. And tell the director you’re just going to wing it and not even bother writing you a script!
more related to the actual product, this stuff seems PERFECT for fall/winter running and post-running. Cozy, soft, and warm?! uhhh perfect! :)
You are amazing and so creative!!!
My favorite post-workout outfit is a t-shirt or tank top and sweatpants. Something super comfy that I can just lounge around in (esp if it was a long run!) =)
Totally digging MPG’s gear. Excited for mine to arrive soon!
I’ve seen this stuff here at our version of Marshalls and I’m always tempted because it looks good. I really like the wool top. I’m a big fan of wool sportswear. I have a few pieces by Icebreaker and it’s amazing. I’m glad to see other companies have started using it in their technical apparel.
Great pics and post! Awesome
Hello from another FFA! Great recap! Well done. :) Nice to be in touch.
I love the hoodie. It is fall here finally and I definitely popped a hoodie on after my workout today as I was running errands. I also really love the pictures you made, first one cracked me up.
Great review! Love the way you structured it, the photos…everything. Good to hear your thoughts on this brand too! And your first photo? Priceless. :D
