We had a great suggestion from Jenny over at simplybeme.com — songs we end our runs with. The COOL down part. I’m viewing this as not the sprint to the finish, but the songs that you would like to hear the moment you STOP running. The moment when you are walking back to your car, house or the last 10 minute walk when you need to keep those legs moving.
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old
Artist: Queen
Title: We are the Champions
Side Note: You know I love me some Queen. His voice is golden and although this song is overused in sports, it is a great melody and Freddie’s voice is stellar. And what better to end a run then with a song of triumph over adversity.
Quotable: “But it’s been no bed of roses. No pleasure cruise. I consider it a challenge before the whole human race – And I ain’t gonna lose.”
Something Current
Artist: Jason Mraz
Title: I Won’t Give Up
Side Note: There are some songs where you can just feel the “raw emotion” in the artist. This is one of those songs. I really, really feel this song. Lyrics are perfect, too.
Quotable: “I won’t give up on us. Even if the skies get rough.”
Something to Consider
Artist: Dave Mathews Band
Title: Crash Into Me
Side Note: Classic Dave. I always forget how much I really like this song. Whenever I hear it I am instantly transformed to someplace different than where I am. I get lost in the smoothness and calmness of the song… which is weird because it’s called “crash into me.” Doesn’t sound very calm.
Quotable: “Who’s got their claws in you my friend?”
There you have it. Three songs that are perfect (for me) to cool down to post run. They would be the soundtrack to my post-run stretch and cool down walk.
Don’t forget to check out the other PLAYLISTS posted on the Catalogue page…
don’t forget to add your link!
What would be the soundtrack to your cool down?

gah. second week in a row I have lost track of the days. veterans day threw me for a loop and I so thought it was wednesday. thats not good.
and i have several DMB songs on my playlist. crash into me is one of them. good list :)
Three fantastic picks! You are the second person to rec Jason Mraz this week, I clearly NEED to check him out.
I love the Queen song too, what a great thing to listen to after a race! (I’d feel like I should be draped in a Union Jack and have a stadium full of people cheering me though ;) )
You’re so good about planning out the list just right. Mine was always just sort of on shuffle so not planned out to build then slow by any means. I did usually start to Eminem’s Till I Collapse though.
There’d have to be some jack Johnson in there too ;) love mr Mraz! Saw him in NYC on the Today show
Ahhh…three spectacular choices! I love me some Freddy M., that’s for sure. Great concept here with the cooldown songs–ever so important!
Awesome choices! And now I suddenly want to karaoke!
Love this list! All 3 are on my “cool down” list too! I have a DMB song on today’s post as well.
Love some Queen and some Dave Matthews. I don’t really have a cooldown list, but I do enjoy some slower songs mid workout, but not mid-run.
Awesome! I need to get more organized with my music!
Loooove Dave Matthews…and Matthew Good :)
Love your choices! Call me corny but sometimes I run to movie soundtracks (i.e Gladiator, Braveheart, Titanic, Star Wars, etc) and the slower/melodic pieces do a good job of mellowing me out at the end :)
Beka: welcome to the club! I love running to soundtracks and LOVE Gladiator!
LOVE your choices. “We are the Champions” by Queen is just one of those songs that will NEVER get old. Workout, kick ass, stretch or cooldown, good anytime.
There’s just something about Jason Mraz and Dave Matthews, right? Right now, I’m kind of partial to Home by Phillip Phillips. Can I even admit that?
Love, love, love Jason Mraz – lots of his songs are on my play list for both running and life :)
All three are on my iPod!! =) I’m esp partial to Jason Mraz – huge huge fan of his!!
