Hopefully your mother doesn’t read this blog, because we are about to talk about some ROCK music. Ok, this isn’t 40 years ago and rock doesn’t have the same “edge” as it used to. But that doesn’t mean we still can’t do some air guitar in the gym or on the road.
Same format:
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old
Artist: The Clash
Title: Should I Stay or Should I Go
Side Note: This song always makes me think of racing. It’s that moment when your legs feel REALLY good and you think that you could destroy your PR… not just beat it, but demolish it. It’s the battle of deciding when to kick it into another gear and GO. I tend to do this WAY to early in the race.
Quotable: “Darling you gotta let me know. Should I stay or should I go?”

Something Current
Artist: Neon Trees
Title: Everybody Talks
Side Note: I know this songs is played A LOT. But it always makes me think of The Strokes — have I said this before? Feel like I’ve shared this song before. I hope not. Maybe I’ve just seen it on other people’s lists. Possible. Guess that means it’s a good one.
Quotable: “Hey baby won’t you look my way, I can be your new addiction”

Something to Consider
Artist: Foo Fighters
Title: The Pretender
Side Note: Remember when they used to make silly videos in the 90s — the Mentos one? Heck, remember when Dave Grohl was with Nirvana? Ya, we are showing our age. I think there music has improved over time, but I could be alone on that island.
Quotable: “What if I say I will never surrender?”

Awesome choices! I often listen to The Pretender when I’m working out at the boxing gym, it goes really well with punching as well as running!
LOVE ALL! (as always) Even if I am more of a girlie-pop gal myself :)
Wow what’s wrong with me, I haven’t been by in forever! Yikes. Sorry for the lack of comments. I love this feature on your site and as usual you have some fun songs. Time to update my playlist. I swear I’ve left everything on there since 2007 haha
Yay for rock lists! I love everything Foo Fighters. :)
I totally remember when Dave Grohl was in Nirvana….doesn’t everyone?? Or am I just in denial that I’m getting older??
I love The Clash…great choices this week!
Ahhh…the Clash! Saw them live in 10th grade. Love all their stuff!
Fun playlist.
I spent an hour on the plane going through my playlist last night! I came across some awesome songs from all genres! :)
LOL wow, the funniest part about today’s is that I had Foo Fighters Pretender as my something to consider!!! Then changed it to something out of mainstream :) I finally linked in!
I love to rock it out when I lift…angerrrrr!!
I’m totally rockin’ out to your pics this week! AWE-SOME!!!
fantastic playlist this week! love it. The Clash was up for nomination for today’s post on mine as well
LOVE Everybody Talks!! It’s one of the songs on my current playlist and one that I LOVE running fast to =) =)
I love this post. Found it through my friend Christine at LoveLifeSurf. I do something similar called Sounds of Saturday on my own blog.
I’m an injured runner but love music so I love this series!
Love The Clash but that song has been a bit overplayed in my world. Neon Trees opened for Duran Duran (one of my favorites) on tour recently and they were awesome! I heard The Pretender today on the radio.
Here are my contributions:
Something old: Thunderstruck by AC/DC (there are so many but AC/DC can always put me into overdrive)
Something current: Some Nights by Fun. Maybe I’m late to the party with Fun but I like the harmonies and to me it sounds like it could be a 70’s Styx song.
Something to consider: “I Can’t Drive 55” by Sammy Hagar. This might be pop more than rock (although SH would disagree) but this song always gets me motivated when running.
I’m such a nerd I only listen to music on runs during races when I am running alone!
Rock music is totally what I love. I am a hair band kind of girl!
