I have a puppy. My puppy is going to be nine years old in May and her name is Mika. (yep, 9 years and she’ll forever be my puppy, so just go with it). Every once and awhile when she is sleeping, she makes some little puppy noises and starts kicking her feet like she is running. I can’t help but wonder: “what is she dreaming about?”
Is she chasing something?
Is she running with me?
We used to go on a lot of 3-5 mile runs. I would take her out for a quick warm-up on some of my longer runs… do 3-5 with her, then drop her off at the house and continue running on my own. We don’t go out as often as we used to, my pace has picked up a bit and hers has slowed a little. We go on lots of walks and play fetch at the park with First Lady… maybe she is dreaming about chasing a ball.
My dream about running
The other night I had a dream about running. I was at the starting line of the LA Marathon — a race I will be running for the first time next weekend — and I was wearing my Chuck Taylors (which I am wearing right now) and the guy behind me stepped on my heel. Not injuring me, but just stepping on my shoe so that your heel comes out of the back. Well, this obviously ruined any chances I had of running a strong race and my day was destroyed (bear with me, it’s a dream, not logical). I was livid. Can you imagine being at the start line of your next race, one you have a chance at setting a PR at, and some dude ruins all hopes that you had BEFORE the race even starts? I woke up feeling stressed out and uneasy, which wasn’t a pleasant way to wake up.
This was not my first dream about running and it won’t be my last. I’ve had some really good running dreams and some uneasy ones like above. I guess when you are passionate or invested in something, it’s bound to sneak into your mind movies. But I still can’t help but wonder, what is Mika dreaming about?
Do you dream about running?
I love the puppy running dreams. The little barks. The feet moving. So cute! I have running dreams quite often especially when a race is coming up. And whenever I have a first meet up with a running buddy or group in the early morning. I get alarm clock anxiety so my dreams revolve around over sleeping and missing the meet up. And then they hate me!
Most times when I dream about running, my legs don’t work properly and it’s a real struggle. I hate that feeling! But then rarely, I dream that I am running/swimming effortlessly and that’s awesome.
I love watching my puppy sleep sometimes! I always wonder the same thing. I have had dreams about running – especially when I am close to a race!
My dog has those dreams!!! I wish I could take him with me running more as we’ll. he is 5 but he likes to stop and sniff too much. Last night I was half asleep half awake obsessing about whether or not I will have my period for my goal marathon in April. As if my goals should change. I was convincing myself to kill my pr goals if that happens. But then I came back to consciousness and realized it doesn’t matter. I will give it 100 percent. This is where mental toughness plays a huge part. No matter what might go wrong on the day of you just have to focus on your goals and forge ahead. Your puppy is adorable.
Teddy dreams he was a big dog ;) He still things he’s a lap dog lol
It’s funny, Yogi Bear used to dream of running. We’d watch him fast asleep, running lol
I totally dream about running. More so when I have a race coming up.
I also have a 9 year old puppy. He runs in his sleep.
Yes I do! Often actually! It’s usually that dream where you are desperately trying to run faster but your legs will not move so you start to crawl using your arms to drag your body! That’s actually the closest thing I can describe to the last 7 mile of my marathon too!
I sometimes have the good dreams too where I get that Great Britain jersey that I have dreamed of my whole running life. I like to think that is a premonition, I just don’t know when :)
As for yours, that’s horrible, when I race, it is a rare occasion where I want to FLY and that would be devastating, but if I was wearing chuck Taylor’s anyway….not sure I could :p
Doggy dreams are the best. Especially the little squeals and barks!
I have a 7 year old puppy and a 9 year old puppy too. The older one definitely dreams about chasing things, I think it’s usually squirrels. The younger one enjoys sleep and laziness too much and complains about a 20 minute walk. Or, he would if he could talk.
Good luck next weekend. Glad the rain is this weekend, hopefully you’ll get good weather.
My dog was always “puppy” until the day he passed. My parents’ 5 year old cats, I still greet with “hi kitten!” Considering dogs and cats never progress past the human intelligence level of a 4 year old, I think it’s okay to call them our forever babies ;)
I’ve definitely had dreams where I try to run and my legs are lead and it’s like running through molasses. Moreso, though, my running-related dreams relate to me forgetting to pick up my bib, or getting to the start line too late and the race is already underway… getting organized for races is stressful! Usually the actual running of the races is what calms me after all the hubbub surrounding bib pickup, chip timing, etc.
My puppy is almost 14 :)
I think she dreams about running more than I do, and boy she loves to run. She’ll sprint down the street any chance she gets. And then she finds the food our neighbor leaves out for his dog and cat-which is why she takes off in the first place-and we have to tromp into their yard yelling out April’s name. She’s not allowed out off leash anymore.
When I’m under a lot of stress or have anxiety about something, I often dream about getting lost on a marathon course and losing (although I’ve never actually won a marathon while awake ;-). I’ve had so many variations of this dream, it’s crazy.
My Scout used to dream about running I am sure… I could see her legs just a twitching!
Absolutely I do. Last night, for example, I dreamed of going for a run in the snow but being able to wear shorts (not as weird as it sounds, if you’ve spent any time in the Midwest). Mostly my running dreams are weird anxiety ones like yours, though, haha.
I have two 12 year old cats that are still referred to as “the kittens”. :) And yes, I have running dreams. They’re either awesome running like I won’t be beat dreams, or running through molasses. No in-between meh runs.
Good luck with the pb..!.. Maybe you could tell me Mikas story for my blog?
