Jumping off a plane, surrounded by friends, rocking matching socks, taking selfies, running with giant glow sticks (or mini light sabers), and laughing throughout 13.1 miles across the Las Vegas strip at night… what could be fun about that? EVERYTHING!

I absolutely LOVE having Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas as the second part of the race day. It’s such an amazing atmosphere, you are surrounded by so many people all in good spirits looking to have a fun time. Let’s rewind a bit in case you missed the first post.

As @carleemcdot said in her recap, the plane ride from San Diego to Las Vegas was pretty uneventful. I typically expect ‘something’ random to occur so that I am mentally prepared for a setback, but this year was pretty straightforward. We landed in Vegas with plenty of time before the start, made our way to the pre-race concert, Kid Rock, then made our way to the corrals for the start of the race – but of course, we had to take a bunch of pictures.

Once the race started, we decided that we would try to stay together for most of the race. None of us had speedy aspirations, and we were all out there to just run for fun, and that’s pretty much what we did. We stopped and took some pictures, walked through the water stations, dropped and picked up fellow friends and #werunsocial crew along the way.

We ended up finishing just shy of 2:45, it was longer than I would have liked to have been out there, but it was all around a great run. Yes it was really windy, yes it rained on us a little, but being surrounded by friends and fellow runners that were just out to have a good time made it all the fun.

We picked up some glow sticks from the volunteers and probably had way too much fun with them. It’s the little things (and surprises) that make a fun run so enjoyable. This was my third year in a row doing Las Vegas, as well as my third year in a row having it be the second race of the day, and we were already planning for what next year will include.

Overall, Vegas was exactly the race that it needed to be: fun, relaxed, and amongst friends.

Thanks to everyone that showed love on social, rocked #werunsocial gear, and congrats to everyone that ran one, two, or fourteen million races across the weekend.

Can’t wait to do it again next year.

On Monday, we’ll recap the #WeRunSocial meet up that happened the following day — our biggest turnout yet.
