I’m always on the look for good running songs. Ones that make you run faster or workout harder. This week we looking at ones that are EPIC:
Let’s break out the big songs. The epic ones that will live on forever (good or bad). The anthems, the songs that go down in history as “the song of your generation.”
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old:
Artist: Queen
Title: Bohemian Rhapsody
Side Note: It was Freddy Mercury’s birthday last week and as a fellow mustache man, I’d like to wish him a happy birthday. THIS song is as EPIC as it gets. The sound, the lyrics, the voice. One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite groups.
Quotable: “He’s just a poor boy from a poor familySpare him his life from this monstrosity.”
Something Current
Artist: Fun. feat. Janelle Monae
Title: We Are Young
Side Note: This song originally appeared on the very first Playlist Thursday. To be honest, Playlist Thursday was created so that I could share how amazing epic this song is to run to. Specifically to START your run to. It sets the tone.
Quotable: “We are young. So let’s set the world on fire. We can burn brighter, Than the sun ”
Something to Consider:
Artist: 30 Seconds to Mars
Title: From Yesterday
Side Note: I may be putting myself on a limb here, but that is what this category is about. I love 30 Seconds to Mars. Jared Leto’s voice is amazing. Yes, he is from My So Called Life, Fight Club and Panic Room, but he has a set of lungs! This video is amazing as well. If you have the time, watch it. It’s beautiful and when you run to the song, you’ll see it in your mind’s eye.
Runner’s Side Note: He played THE Steve Prefontaine in Prefontaine (97)
Quotable: “He’s a stranger to some. And a vision to none. He can never get enough, Get enough of the one”
Don’t forget to check out the list of other Playlist Thursday posts from other bloggers.
Did you know I have a Facebook page? Wanna Like?

I need to just surrender and mail you my ipod to fill.
we could actually make this happen… or I could send you a Pavey Mix Tape.
Adding some of these to my playlist :)
Excellent picks. “We Are Young” is such a great epic song. Lately for me, it’s been “Fighter” by Gym Class Heroes.
I’m with you on this one, too, Christine. I love “Fighter”.
I just added “We Are Young” to my playlist. Now I’ve got to download the others! For your wild card, check out “Can’t Believe” by fireHose. It’s old school skater/punk/alternative, but it gets me moving.
Another great playlist. I love Queen and 30 Seconds To Mars! I think any song from Queen would fit in this category!
You always give me great new workout songs! Don’t tell, but I’ve been listening to old TLC!
Classic. I’ll keep it between us, but if you dance mid-workout to Waterfalls, your secret might be out.
Love the 2nd one. I wouldn’t have thought of the first but can see how it could really build up in intensity. The last one though? I get impatient with songs with long slow beginnings before the music really starts LOL.
Anything with Queen would do. How about “We Will Rock You?”
YES! I was so close to putting Bohemian Rhapsody up on mine but I opted for something a little different.
I had no idea FUN sang that song…I love it! Definitely adding it to my playlist.
Great ones!
Love your playlist! The slower 1/2 has been listening to random shuffle since our grandma GG died unexpectedly on Monday, July 16. Random Shuffle + Grief + Gratitude = #GGplaylist! :-)

Very sad. But nice to see “gratitude” in the mix.
I am in LOVE with We Are Young. I also really like their new song Some Nights. Great choices!
such a great song. If I can, I start every run to it.
I can’t run to Queen because I bust up my neck head banging a la Wayne’s World.
haha… that could be an issue.
My husband LOVES 30 seconds to mars!! I just love Jared Leto…the My So-Called Life Days! I did a few songs today!

We are young I really do like – and totally agree it is epic – just overplayed!
I almost forgot it was Thursday! We are young is such a great song!!!!
LOVE We Are Young. And Bohemian Rhapsody is one that I haven’t thought to add…but definitely a good pick.
I love We Are Young. There is also a great acoustic live version on YouTube. I should have added to my Epic Songs post.
