Another edition of “An Easy 10 with…” — this week, we get the chance to meet fellow FitFluential Ambassador and the voice author of one of my favorite blogs to read: Heather Montgomery.  It also helps that her posts frequently mention Disney, who doesn’t love mouse ears and running? She’ll be going Goofy in 2013 which adds her to my list of “runner’s I know that are doing the race I have wanted to do for the longest time.” But without further ado, I introduce a little “Sass” into your running world:

Name: Heather Montgomery
Location: Biloxi/Gulf Coast MS
Race History:
5k: 13
5 miler: 1
10k: 1
Half Marathon: 12
Full Marathon: 1
Ultra Relay: 1

I started running… in 2009. I went to Disney World for a girls trip and to watch some friends run the full marathon. It was so inspiring I vowed to come back and do it one day! The next year I ran the Disney half and in 2011 I came full circle and ran the Disney full. I am so crazy that I am running Goofy 2013! (half Saturday, full Sunday)

When I’m not running, I… lift weights, cross train, or take yoga classes. Oh, you mean NOT fitness related? Playing with my pups, booking Disney vacations (for myself and others haha) hanging out with my husband and blogging.

One time when I was on a long run… well, this was actually part of a race, but when I ran the Rouge Orleans ultra relay along the levee from Baton Rouge to New Orleans, I had to pee, in the dark, on the side of the levee… twice! Not too many places to go at 2 a.m. so you do what you have to do!

I choose to run without… music on training runs. I only use it during races and that’s if I am not running with someone else. I prefer to be aware of my surroundings when I am by myself. Safety first! I also like to be alone with my thoughts.

The question I am asked most about running is… “How far is a half marathon” or “how for is a marathon” I think I may tattoo these on my forehead.

After an event or tough run, I… eat whatever I want. No holding back. Pizza, ice cream, sweet tea, you name it. It’s my reward.

Running is… cheaper than therapy. Seriously, I use running to sort out life’s problems, think through tough issues, pray, even cry sometimes. I am in a bad mood when I don’t get to run and work things out!

When I’m on the road… I am so thankful that I have two working legs and a set of lungs that allow me to participate in the sport. I have to remind myself not to take it for granted, because not everyone is so lucky, and it truly is a gift to be able to run and run and run!

I wish other runners would… not spit during a race with a strong wind. I have gotten sprayed from stray spit and snot on more than one occasion. Yikes.

If I could run 3-miles with someone famous, it would be… my girl, Kara Goucher. I think it’s so awesome how she balances family with running. She seems so down to earth and is so open about her past and her struggles. She just seems so real and genuine!

There you have it! Another fabulous runner amongst us. Be sure to check out her blog: Running With Sass or check her out on Twitter. And if you are brave enough, join her in Disney World 2013 and go a little Goofy. She can give you more details about staying in the magical land and info on discounted hotel… see, told you she was the bomb-diggity.

What did you think about the interview? Are you feeling a little goofy or sassy?
