Did someone say Mezamashii Run? When I slept in through my morning run of my scheduled double day, I knew I needed to make my afternoon run count extra.
Instead, I went with “Brilliant”
I was lucky enough to be a part of the #Mezamashii Project by Mizuno.
From their website:
The Mezamashii Run Project is an effort by Mizuno to help create a more euphoric running experience — a more “brilliant” run — for more runners everywhere. The word “mezamashii” means “eye-opening” or “brilliant” in Japanese — it’s a word that captures the euphoric feeling of a brilliant run.
I’ve never run in Mizuno’s before, so my options were open and I went with the Wave Inspire 8, mostly because I wanted something with stability control that was also colorful. Important details, folks. Check out the yellow.
I had 6 planned, but legs felt really good and ended up logging 6.75. I didn’t feel like I was pushing my pace too quickly and was surprised when my mile 5 came in at 7:50. I don’t always look at how fast each mile is, but on this one I looked down to see. I didn’t think I was going anywhere near that pace. My legs felt really good, but I wasn’t by any means pushing the pace.
Legs getting stronger and more comfortable?
When I finished my run, I went back to make sure I read mile 5 correctly and was shocked to see that mile 3 was 7:52. What?
Two sub-8 minute miles without feeling like I pushed the pace?
The other miles were in my normal range 8.5-9 minutes with some photo-taking breaks and waiting at red lights.
The overall run was typical and if I hadn’t had my Garmin would have never known any different, but those two miles definitely had a “brilliant” feeling. I must have somehow slipped into the zone and whipped out not one, but two fast miles. Could it be the shoes?
I jumped on the foam roller the night before bed and slept in compression calf socks and thigh sleeves, which may have helped my legs feel refreshed for this run… but who am I to argue with “super cool shoes make you run super fast.”
Only time will tell. How soon can I take these out again?
Want to win a pair?
You have until midnight on Friday August 24th to head over to Love, Life, Surf to enter to win — but don’t forget to leave a comment here first, sheesh. Get all jumpy and stuff.
Have you ever had a “brilliant” run?
Ever run in a pair of shoes from Mizuno?

Glad you finally got to experience Mizuno! They sure are pretty. :)
Wow! Great job and those shoes look really great, too! Pavement Runner’s styling…
awesome awesome run! i used to play vball in mizunos. love them!
Glad you enjoyed some brilliance. Mizuno is all I ever run in. Love them.
Every tun is “brilliant” for me because I’m better than I was the day before. And yes I LOVE Mizunos. Been running in them for 5+ years. =)
I feel like the only person on planet earth who has not tried these amazing shoes… guess I need get on it! They look great too. Have a great weekend.
I just switched from Newtons to Mizunos (Wave Rider 15). I can’t say that I love them yet as they’re definitely heavier than the Newtons but I think they’ll be better for me in the long run. I really like the fit, it’s nice and snug. Love the colour of yours! Mine are boring but I’ve found the same pair in a bright purple and red online so that will be my next pruchse.
Magic! ; )
Glad they worked well for you. Shoes are key!!
Those shoes are awesome! Love Mizuno’s!
I swear my bright yellow Mizunos make me faster, too! Love how light weight they are.
Glad to hear you had a brilliant run. It must be the shoes. Oops, wrong brand :-)
I’ve never tried Mizuno, but hope to do so soon (I applied to the project). I’ve sure been reading great things and hope they will work as well for me.
What beautiful shoes! I’ve actually been considering getting the Mizuno Wave Inspire 8’s – I’m looking for a good shoe with support and cushioning. Looks like these may be perfect!
Love the shoes! Sounds like a great run :)
Love the yellow! Flash is def in!
Love those colors! I am need of new Mizunos even though they sent me some fairly recently!
Glad the Mizunos work for you. I’ve tried over and over again to get comfortable in different styles of Mizunos but they just never feel right. Maybe someday that’ll change. I’m in Nikes now and loving them when, 4 years ago, they felt horrible to me.
Welcome to the BRILLIANT club ;)
SO glad you had your #Mezamashii run!!! You’re going to have so many more in those amazing shoes. :) I run in nothing else. :)
I love my mizunos!
I love how a new pair of great shoes can impact a workout physically and mentally! I set 2 pr is my mizuno wave inspires! I am going back to them after a brief affair with asiacs that really didn’t compare.
Wow! I would love to try Mizuno. I have not tried those shoes before. I have had one good run, but I’m waiting for that GREAT one!
Great run man. Hope the ultra training is going great!
I’ve heard about them & would love to try them too!
I am a Mizuno addict. I switched over from another brand after my first marathon and am so much happier. I personally run in Wave Creations (currently bright purple w/yellow accents).
I love to run in Mizunos!
I know it’s wrong to buy shoes based on color… but I would buy these just for looks. LOL!
Love Mizunos!!
Been dying to get picked for mezamishii so I can try a pair of mizunos! Never have before
Sounds like a BRILLIANT run!! That’s the best, when you don’t realize how fast you’re going. True ‘Mezamashii’. Looking forward to having my own brilliant run
Great shoes! I used to run in Mizunos and always liked them – great shoe and nice and wide for my bunion-ed feet. ;) I like the yellow too! And the idea of “Mezamashii” – so neat (as I’ve read on other blogs too)!
I had a beautiful 10.2 miles yesterday where I listened to sermons, ran comfortably on a gorgeous evening and finished faster than I have in ages – brillant indeed. :)
