Did someone say Mezamashii Run? When I slept in through my morning run of my scheduled double day, I knew I needed to make my afternoon run count extra.

Instead, I went with “Brilliant”

I was lucky enough to be a part of the #Mezamashii Project by Mizuno.

From their website:
The Mezamashii Run Project is an effort by Mizuno to help create a more euphoric running experience — a more “brilliant” run — for more runners everywhere. The word “mezamashii” means “eye-opening” or “brilliant” in Japanese — it’s a word that captures the euphoric feeling of a brilliant run.

I’ve never run in Mizuno’s before, so my options were open and I went with the Wave Inspire 8, mostly because I wanted something with stability control that was also colorful. Important details, folks. Check out the yellow.

I had 6 planned, but legs felt really good and ended up logging 6.75. I didn’t feel like I was pushing my pace too quickly and was surprised when my mile 5 came in at 7:50. I don’t always look at how fast each mile is, but on this one I looked down to see. I didn’t think I was going anywhere near that pace. My legs felt really good, but I wasn’t by any means pushing the pace.

Legs getting stronger and more comfortable?

When I finished my run, I went back to make sure I read mile 5 correctly and was shocked to see that mile 3 was 7:52. What?

Two sub-8 minute miles without feeling like I pushed the pace?

The other miles were in my normal range 8.5-9 minutes with some photo-taking breaks and waiting at red lights.

The overall run was typical and if I hadn’t had my Garmin would have never known any different, but those two miles definitely had a “brilliant” feeling. I must have somehow slipped into the zone and whipped out not one, but two fast miles. Could it be the shoes?

I jumped on the foam roller the night before bed and slept in compression calf socks and thigh sleeves, which may have helped my legs feel refreshed for this run… but who am I to argue with “super cool shoes make you run super fast.”

Only time will tell. How soon can I take these out again?

Want to win a pair?

You have until midnight on Friday August 24th to head over to Love, Life, Surf to enter to win — but don’t forget to leave a comment here first, sheesh. Get all jumpy and stuff.
