It’s Thursday, so let’s see what is on Pavey’s list this week… would love to hear you thoughts in the comments below.
Again, here is the format:
- Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
- Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
- Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Something Old
Artist: Jackson 5
Title: ABC
Side Note: Talk about a trip down memory lane. Ok, I have to admit, I wasn’t born when this was on the air, but Michael Jackson knew how to move his feet, so it makes sense that his music will make you move yours on a run.
Quotable: “Now, now, now I’m gonna teach you. All about love, dear, all about love”
Something Current
Artist: Somebody That I Used to Know
Title: Glee Cast (or originally performed by Gotye feat. Kimbra)
Side Note: This song is all over the place right now. If you haven’t reached the point of over-kill with it, it is fun to add into the mix. I went with the Glee version here. A. Because the show is awesome. B. Blaine rocks. C. It might be a version you haven’t heard yet.
Quotable: “Now and then I think of when we were together. Like when you said you felt so happy you could die”
Something to Consider
Artist: Fort Minor
Title: Remember the Name
Side Note: You may recoginze Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park, this was a project he worked on a few years ago and the album was awesome. I love this song. Totally gets me pumped mid-run and has a pretty cool hook. It was also used a few years ago for the NBA playoffs.
Quotable: “This is ten percent luck, twenty percent skill. Fifteen percent concentrated power of will. Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain. And a hundred percent reason to remember the name!” — now tell me that couldn’t be about running!
I will no have ABC stuck in my head for the remainder of the day. Thank you for that ;)
Wow, Jackson 5…. That brings back memories! Great playlist!
What’s a workout without a little Jackson 5 and ABC? Love it!
Hey! I came across your blog, and I’m glad I did! I’m listening to Something To Consider right now, and I’m adding it…reminds me of Eminem, Soldier…great mid run kind of kick in the butt music!
Thanks for the suggestions!
Great picks! I love Jackson 5 ABC and I am also currently obsessed with Somebody That I Used to Know, however I do agree, it is getting so overplayed I am getting sick of it.
The fact that you like Glee makes me love you and your blog even more!! In my bio I wrote I am a TOTAL gleek!!!
One more thing…check out Shake It Off-Florence + The Machine (I LOVE the GLEE version as well) but the songs lyrics are really something to listen to :)
Ohhh Fort Minor! I remember when they first came out!
I’m loving Body Work (feat. Tegan and Sara)and Big Hoops by Nelly Furtado
Old school: Ace of Base!
The morning of my competitions, I play “Remember the Name” as a way to pump me up! I love it!!
T.
Love that Fort Minor song – it’s on my running and CrossFit playlists!
“Remember The Name” used to be in heavy rotation on my playlist! Love the military-like cadence…keeps my steps steady and even.
I’ve loved that Gotye song for a while now, and I like the Glee version too–fun stuff. And you turned me on to something new with the something to consider song. Thanks!
Remember the Name is new to me – I can see where that would be an awesome running tune, thanks for the suggestion!
I remember that Fort Minor song but never knew the name or artist so THANK YOU! I can sleep tonight. Phew. “Somebody I used to Know” is in heavy rotation in my playlist right now and I prefer the Glee version because, as you said, Blaine rocks.
Not gonna lie I am not the biggest fan of glee, but I like that you used a version some people may not be exposed to. Your playlists make me wanna run with music more
Thanks… I’m not gonna lie either, I wish I could run WITHOUT it more. :)
