This week we are taking a look at hip hop music. First off, let me apologize for some of the language and images that may be in the videos. Please understand that I do not encourage or approve of some of the lyrics/images. The way I view it is that I am intelligent enough to know that it is for entertainment, and not intended for younger audiences. These are simply songs that I enjoy listening to and although I am may be sharing them on the blog, it does not portray my personal views.

Strange that I have to write such things. I feel like the movie studio that has to say all the legal hoopla before the movie. Eh.

Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Could be old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.

Something Old

Artist: Paperboy
Title: Ditty
Side Note: You all remember this? You might not know the name, but click play and you’ll know the sound. You are welcome for a trip back to the early 90s.
Quotable: “Yo, this is how I’m comin’ for the nine deuce.”

Something Current

Artist: Eminem
Title: Berzerk
Side Note: Eminem is getting ready to release a new album and here is the first single. I love the beat. It’s produced by legendary producer Rick Ruben and has a nod to the Beastie Boys in rap style and sound. I like it. I like it a lot…. BUT, I wish he would stop with the taking shots at people. I don’t want to hear him crack jokes on the Kardashians or K-fed, he is just too talented to play those name-games anymore. Looking forward to the new album, will definitely purchase the day it comes out.
Quotable: “So turn the volume loud, cause it’s mayhem ’til the a.m.”

Something to Consider

Artist: Wale
Title: Chain Music
Side Note: I may be a running nerd if the song’s hook (or chorus) makes me think about putting a giant finisher’s medal on (see quote below). If you enjoy hip hop on your playlist, this one is fun. It isn’t going to make you run faster or lift stronger, but it’s a good song to have in the mix for a longer workout. I’m also a fan of Wale, but more of his older stuff.
Quotable: “Chain so big, can’t pop my collar.”

There you have it. That’s this week’s list.

In case you missed it, I announced a Challenge for September. You in?

What are you currently listening to? Any hip hop?
