It’s Thursday, which means it’s time to take a look at your playlist and see if we can mix it up. Time for another PLAYLIST THURSDAY.

Again, here is the format:

  • Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
  • Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
  • Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.

I decided to feature an artist for this PLAYLIST THURSDAY, so I hope you like hip-hop. The one. The only. Jay-Z

Something Old

Artist: Memphis Bleek and Jay Z
Title: Everything’s A Go
Side Note: Some of HOVA’s greatest appearances are on other people’s tracks and he makes a small appearance on this one. With the song produced by Just Blaze, this one will get you going… as the song says “Everything’s A Go!”
Quotable: “Highest paid act, highest paid to rap. I advance myself, and pay myself back” Sorry for the non-official video, don’t think there was a music video for this one.

Something Current

Artist: Jay Z and Kanye West
Title: Otis
Side Note: This song makes me run my pants off! When it comes on I know it’s going to be a fast mile for me. Works every time.
Quotable: “You won’t regret it, no, no. No, girl they won’t forget it.” I quoted the Otis lyrics in the beginning because it’s his voice and how it’s produced that make the song. And this video is FRESH. If you’ve never seen it, check it out. 41 million plus views can’t be wrong, can it?

Something to Consider

Artist: Jay Z and Alicia Keys
Title: Empire State of Mind
Side Note: This song came out while I was getting ready for my first (and only) NYCM. It was perfect. Got me excited for what was to come. When it comes on now, I am immediately taken back to that race. The people. The course. The energy. Get’s me going every time. NYCM 12 is coming up, perfect time to add it.
Quotable: “In New York, concrete jungle where dreams are made of. There’s nothin’ you can’t do.” Alicia Keys must be singing about NYCM…. This video also has some great shots of NY and will totally get you thinking about your next trip to NEEEWWWW YOOOOORRRRKK. Sorry.

Hope you enjoyed. Don’t forget to check out Running on Ipsum, she usually likes to play along. Wonder what she has cooking over there…

As usual, I’d love to here what you think of these songs. Are any of them already on your playlist?
