playlist-thursday-black

For those of you unfamiliar with Playlist Thursday, it’s a weekly post that shares 3 songs to add to your workout playlist. Sometimes there is a theme, such as Pop, Rock, Speedwork, Beach songs, etc. This week, we’re looking at one of our more popular themes: Pop music.

Same format:

Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Could be old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.

Something Old

Artist: Janet Jackson
Title: Nasty
Side Note: Haha. Miss Jackson was dropping hits back in the day. There was so much talent in that family… but Janet held her own in the 80s and into the 90s, not to mention her acting career. I won’t comment on her hair in this video tho… someone should make her dance moves into a workout DVD, just give me credit for the idea.
Quotable: “No my first name ain’t baby.”

Something Current

Artist: Katy Perry
Title: Roar
Side Note: This song makes this list because of the “eye of the tiger” connection. I like the lyrics, I like her voice, I just feel like the beat is a bit “too pop.” I know that’s her genre/sound, but I want it to be a bit more aggressive. I want it to pump me up. I want it to make me feel invincible. Instead, I just enjoy it.
Quotable: “I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter, dancing through the fire.”

Something to Consider

Artist: Natalia Kills
Title: Problem
Side Note: “The British response to Lady Gaga” is how iTunes described her last album. She has a new album dropping this year and this is the first single. Let me know what you think? I’m undecided on it… that’s why it gets put in the consider section, rather than something current, but I’m leaning more towards the “like it.”
Quotable: “That girl is a problem. Girl is a problem.”

There you have it. The ladies brought it strong this week and we’ve got a couple songs that were released this year… not too shabby for this out-of-touch runner-blogger guy. If you’ve got some great songs to share, throw them in the comments below.

What are you listening to this week?
