The Run. The Rock. The Wine.
It’s the perfect trifecta of a race weekend and the inaugural Grapes of Rock Half Marathon, on June 8th, will have all three.
Here is the quick 411:
Race Day: Saturday, June 8th, 2013
Distance: Half MarathonLocation: Starts in Healdsburg, Finishes near Lake Sonoma
Post Race: Wine Festival and Concert
Swag: Tech Shirt, Medal, Wine Glass… possibly more(?)
The race is being put on by Project Sport, the same event company that does the US Half in San Francisco, which is one of my favorite races and their swag is always spot on. Two of my favorite race shirts (’08, ’12) are from their events.

The Wine Festival:
After you cross the finish line, you’ll enter the Runner Village designated for YOU. Here you will grab all your swag, any gear checked then you’ll exit into a post-race festival with free tastings from more than a dozen wineries. Lucky you will have a finisher’s wine glass. CHEERS and celebrate.
Oh ya, local beer and food will also be available. Sonoma County really is all about the finer things.
The Rock.
There will be three performances: Pop Rocks, Pete Stringfellow and of course, Every Rose Has It’s Thorn Bret Michaels. I grew up listening to Poisen and there may be some photos of me dressed up as Bret Michaels for Halloween… I’m not even going to lie, it was within the past 5 years and I looked awesome. Ha. I’d bet miles that the crowd will sing along with ERHIT when he plays it.
The Reason.
100% of the proceeds will benefit the Salvation Army of Santa Rosa, local charities selected by the Winegrowers of Dry Creek Valley, and the Dry Creek Valley Association.
The Giveaway.
Due to my running a marathon June 2 and June 16, I will be unable to participate. The good news is that YOU can. Project Sport has been gracious enough to allow me to host a giveaway for FREE entry into this year’s race.

Um rad. Wine + beautiful views + half marathon? I’m alllll about this!
This sounds like an AWESOME race!! Wish I was in Cali!
Sounds so fun! Don’t think I’ll be able to go to CA in June as I have a half Ironman that month, but I will spread the word. Run + Wine = Perfect!
wine country and running, i’m there!
The only thing holding me back from registering is the entry price…
For me – the charity aspect. I think that’s a great thing, and great reason to run any race. Plus, wine country doesn’t hurt!
Wine and running what could be better? :)
this race looks like a BLAST! looks it will be “nothin but a good time”…
Now if only I was in cali and running enough to do a half! lol Great giveaway!
Oh my gosh! I would love to run a race near Sonoma! I’ve been looking for a half around this time, and the Grapes of Rock half looks perfect!
This would be fun. I grew up in Sonoma County and would be great to go back close to home and run a half.
I will use any excuse to go to wine country, so consider my name in the hat!
Sigh. Ok, did it wrong–I like the idea of a “wine village” best on the web site!
The site, smells, and sounds are what I look forward to most. Nothing better than running in the peaceful country.
The Grapes of Rock website POPS!!! It’s awesome. This looks like it will be a super fun race and great time!
Looks like fun! Me me!
Oh this looks super fun!
Bret Michaels? Yes, please!~
Oh, been toying with this one! It looks great and I think the beneficiary is great. Love the alliteration on the website! My friend really wants to go so thanks for the chance to win!
Um wine…rock….what isn’t there to love in a runcation?!
I love that this incorporates, wine, rock and running — perfection in a weekend!
I like the location and the reason!
Love this website. It looks so fun and if I win I would make a vacation out of this!!
I haven’t raced in wine country for years! And I saw this race advertised. Looks like fun! Hope I get to run :)
I can’t run this so don’t enter me – but what are you running on June 2?! I’m hankering for a trail marathon…
What do I like best about the website?! I LOVE that this half Mary has the best post race party ever! Wine and Bret Michaels will make this 80s child a happy camper for sure!
This looks like a fun marathon!
UMMM Fact: I wish I lived closer and wasn’t a poor student so I go to this!!
Ugh… I wish I could make it!!! Consider this added to my “To Run” list – it had me at wine… and rock…
This sounds awesome, and who doesn’t love Bret Michaels? Damn you CA for having all the awesome races.
I wanna win it!!
I love the logo!
I love wine! (And I want my friend Elise to be there with me!)
I have been following this run since I first heard about it but can’t swing all the related costs… but with free entry… I would so be in!! Always wanted to visit Sonoma County!
I think almost all of the runners I know love wine, too. Racing + wining = winning :P
I was just looking at this race today. So close to home and looks like a blast!!
It does look fun. No wine at the hydration stops, right? :)
I saw this race a few months ago on Facebook and it seemed out of my price range. I’d looooove to run it and enjoy the post-race show! Their website makes it look like *THE* coolest run ever.
The Grapes of Rock logo on the website is awesome. The color choices are also very good!
Well organized and gorgeous website to match an equally amazing terrain. If you’ve never been to Sonoma, this is the best reason to go!
I’m so excited about the race – great run, great music, great wine and great beer! This is gods way of telling me to get off the couch
Would love love love to go to this!
This race looks amazing! I’d love to win!
I love the logo and that Rock and Roll is involved! Easy to use site as well.
