Last weekend was the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon and Half Marathon. I was in town to run the full marathon as part of my partnership with the RnR race series to run all 5 of the California races. This was the only full marathon for them in California and my first time running in San Diego, so I was pretty excited.
The expo was massive and well-organized, which is typical RnR fashion. They’ve got this down to a science and are able to handle massive amounts of people with precision, at least based on my experience in over 10 RnR race expos.
I reached out to some friends that were local to the San Diego area and arranged a meet up, or tweet up on Saturday. I got to meet some new friends for the first time, along with meeting some twitter folks in real life… they are a lot taller than their profile photo. There were a lot of “you look familiar, what’s your twitter handle” type of intros and it was fun. Due to it being the day before a major race, there were some folks that weren’t able to make it, but we had a good turnout and all wished each other luck and snapped some photos.
I really wish I had a chance to take some more individual photos with everyone. I’m always bad at remembering to do that. A lot of the times I have my “good” camera and forget to use it. Please remind me to take photos if we meet, LOL. I promise not to make funny faces… unless you want to. See above.
Afterwards, to end the night on a nice note, a few of us went out for dinner. And we had a couple special guests join us… The First Lady and wifey (taking the photo).
That’s the wrap up for the day before a marathon. Looks like we’ll have to wait until Monday to get all the details on how the race went. If you can see in the photo below, that IS a medal around my neck, so I did finish.
Oh, and I’ll have a sort-of announcement on Monday. Most of you already know, it’s not a secret, but it’s one of those “this guy must be crazy” kind of announcements. I wouldn’t even call it an announcement, more of an update on what I’ll be doing kind of thing. Was that vague enough? LOL. Guess we’ll see.
What’s your favorite thing about an expo?
Do you like taking photos with fellow runners?

I miss my old city! It’s a great one to run in, fabulous weather and views.. and yes, even ships on land :)
It was awesome meeting you, “even if you do look so young!” :) Congrats on all of your accomplishments! Here is to the next race!
Looks like a fun meet up! I LOVE the big race expos. Anytime I get to shop for all sorts of cool race / running gear, I’m a happy camper. I love taking pics with fellow runners but alas, I almost always forget. Case in point – the Fit Fluential meet up. I had a camera but didn’t even bust it out. :(
Looking forward to the race recap!!
