You may remember the Limited Edition California version of the Nike Pegasus 30 that I was rocking last year. I kept them crisp and clean and hadn’t really started running until recently. When Finish Line wanted me to test out the latest version of the Pegasus, I was all over it. I laced them up and started running in them right away. I took them up to Seattle with me and was flashing them all weekend.

I wore them for the first time on our shakeout run in prep for the marathon the next day. It was a comfortable 3 mile with friends and they felt great. I didn’t wear them for the marathon, but have used them for short-to-middle distance runs. The longest has been a 10-mile run, but the majority have been less than that or on hill workouts.

Comfortable

The biggest thing, for me, on the Pegasus is the how great they feel when they are on. The cushioning inside the shoe feels great and I can definitely feel how comfortable it feels when they are on. That’s part of the reason that I love wearing them when I’m walking around. When you slip them on, it hugs your lower ankle and heel… almost like you are sliding into a support shoe.

Running

I’ve stated before that on longer distances I prefer a support motion-control shoe. With that being said, I have really enjoyed both the Pegasus 30 and the Pegasus 31 for shorter-distance high-intensity workouts. They are supportive enough for me on runs in the 5-8 mile range and light enough (11 oz) to get in some quick repeats.

Design

In typical Nike fashion, they look great. The Nike Pegasus 31 is designed with a mesh upper and no-sew overlays to keep the shoe light and give your foot the support and cushioning it needs. For stability, there is a rubber outsole that gives the shoe a wider footprint for impact and a contoured forefoot for a smoother transition (that little black part on the toe).

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a neutral shoe that has some additional cushioning, this would be a great fit. With a 10mm offset, it provides a more natural footstrike, but has responsive cushioning and lightweight support for high mileage and speed.
