Coming back from a running injury can always be tough. I strained the upper part of my left foot last week and took it easy. I’m in week 4 of my 16 week training plan for the 50 Mile North Face Endurance Challenge — here is how the numbers worked out:
Monday: Rest
Tuesday: 10 miles Rest
Wednesday: 8.5 miles
Thursday: 6.5 miles
Friday: 6.6 miles
Saturday: 20.25 miles
Sunday: 10 miles Rest
Total Milage: 41.85
As you can see, two days got switched to rest days. With last week’s milage at 26.7, the jump to 41.85 was a leap (it shouldn’t be over a 10% increase), but the week prior was 51.3, so I was comfortable with the total.
The 20 miler on Saturday was the true test and I took it with a pretty comfortable pace to be on the safe side. It went really well, especially since that was my longest distance since my DNF in May. I ran the last mile at 8:17 and the legs felt pretty good. It definitely gives me some confidence going into this week.
Maybe I’ll have a surprise lined up for the weekend. Be sure to follow me in Instagram (PavementRunner) for more photos of my running adventures.
How was your running over the weekend?

I did not know you were training for a 50 miler. I want to do one so bad. As you may or may not know I did NFEC 50K Washington DC and loved it! After Boston I want to focus on trails. My running over the weekend was OK… having a tough time adjusting to this neighborhood as it is very hilly… guess I shouldn’t complain to you being that you live SF. :) Nice 20 miler there Pavie!
Hills are hills, no matter where they are. I don’t really mind the “up,” It’s the “down” I’m never a fan of.
It’s nice to hear about your training! Sounds like you are being smart with the mileage and building back up. Keep up the great work!
So glad to hear you’re back at it! I love the No Parking shot!!
I had a great long run yesterday as well. Only 24km (15 miles or so?). Was a beautiful day for here!
So glad you are feeling good. I think your mileage looks solid for where you were/are. Good move!
Love that no parking shot. And love surprises!
Thanks… I think you are going to dig my kind of surprises.
what a gorgeous view! I saw when you posted it on instagram earlier. I ran 3 on saturday it was SO HOT and humid. Made me miss SoCal!
You should try Nor Cal… :)
I have had a little foot problem pop up on a few of my runs, resulting in unexpected “rest days.” I don’t love it, but it’s better than losing weeks worth of running.
Not related, but I absolutely LOVE the look of your blog. Will you make mine awesome like yours? j/k, well not really :)
You have the best running views!
I had a great run this weekend! It was FUn! :)
I love seeing all your pics from your runs around SF. So pretty!
I had a great 9 miler on Sunday. Easing back in after the whole knee issue. Smart is key!
Definitely the way to go. Glad to hear you are easing back into it.
wow over 20 miles! you got this! that is awesome!
Not much running this weekend but I did get 12 in today as I finally work my way back up to double-digit runs. Way to go on your 20!
hey, so do the Tanners still live on that street? ;)
LOL. No, but I’m always impressed by folks that recognize those houses from the opening credits. Random fact: The house shown on as “their” house is a different house in SF.
Glad your foot is feeling better. Mine is feeling a bit odd too lately! Not sure why the left foot gets cranky every now and then…
