I can’t believe it has been a couple months since my last Playlist Thursday… I apologize. Normally Playlist Thursday covers three songs: Something Old, Something New and Something to Consider. But with this being the end of the year, let’s take a look at some of the great songs of the year. Let’s dive right into it.

In no particular order.

Artist: Zedd feat Foxes
Title: Clarity
Side Note: EDM? Did I get that right? Either way, added to the playlist and been there ever since.
Quotable: If our love’s insanity, why are you my clarity?

Artist: Drake
Title: Started From the Bottom (NSFW, like, AT ALL!)
Side Note: The more popular song might be Hold On, We’re Going Home, but for playlist, THIS one is perfect. I like to listen to it early in a race. It’s a slower song, but perfect to make you realize that all your training (the bottom) is what got you to race day (now we here). Shout out to Canada!
Quotable: Started from the bottom now we’re here.

Artist: Pitbull feat. Ke$ha
Title: Timber
Side Note: This song took about 85 listens for it to grow on me. Thankfully, the radio was more than happy to play it every 5 minutes, so it didn’t take too long. I kinda miss the old Pitbull that had more of a latin sound, but this one is catchy and him and Ke$ha sound pretty good together.
Quotable: We about to clown. Why? ‘Cause it’s about to go down

Artist: Avicii
Title: Wake Me Up
Side Note: Catchy… Catchy as hell.
Quotable: I can’t tell where the journey will end. But I know where to start.

Artist: Miley Cyrus
Title: Wrecking Ball
Side Note: I’ll only cop to one Miley song and this video is better than We Can’t Stop, so here you go. This might not be one that you add to your playlist on first listen, but if you are running for a few hours, it’s nice to have some random thoughts (like these) during a run.
Quotable: All you ever did was wreck me.

Artist: Eminem
Title: Berzerk (NSFW)
Side Note: Loved this song the first time I heard it. Produced by Rick Ruben and the lead single off Eminem’s latest album, it’s a great sound, including a sample of Billy Squier’s The Stroke.
Quotable: Let’s take it back to straight hip-hop and start it from scratch.

Artist: Imagine Dragons
Title: It’s Time
Side Note: Easy going, pleasant and perfect for a long, slow run.
Quotable: The path to heaven runs through miles of clouded hell.

Artist: Kanye West
Title: Black Skinhead (NSFW)
Side Note: First time I heard this, I picked up on Marilyn Manson’s The Beautiful People sound… was a fan of that song back then, and still like the sound.
Quotable: If our love’s insanity, why are you my clarity?

Artist: Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams
Title: Get Lucky
Side Note: Played all over the place. Was in constant rotation on the playlist, but did get taken off after a couple months… just didn’t have the staying power, but was good while it lasted.
Quotable: Like the legend of the phoenix. All ends with beginnings.

Artist: Robin Thicke feat. Pharrell Williams, T.I.
Title: Blurred Lines (NSFW)
Side Note: One Pharrell song leads to another. Hot track of the year, if not THE hottest. No 2013 list is complete without this one.
Quotable: But you’re an animal, baby, it’s in your nature.

Honorable mentions:

Suit & Tie – Justin Timberlake feat. Jay-Z
Ho Hey – The Lumineers
Live for the Night – Krewella
Came Back Haunted – Nine Inch Nails

My Favorite Addition for 2013

Artist: Icona Pop feat Charli XCX
Title: I Love It
Side Note: Friggin love everything about this song. Instantly added to the playlist and look forward to it coming up at random during a run.
Quotable: I threw your sh** into a bag and pushed it down the stairs.

There you have it. Some of the best songs of 2013 to add to your playlist.
