Another week of running music madness, perfect for any playlist workout. This week’s theme is RED, WHITE and BLUE — could be a patriotic song, an independent artist (day after Independence Day and all), a cool video with lots of red (or white, or blue), mention a color, anything that can be associated with July 4th.

Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Something Old
Artist: Culture Club
Title: Karma Chameleon
Side Note: Oh yes, I did. Friggin love this song and have since I was kid. Totally reminds me of driving with my dad to school in his green oldsmobile. Funny fact that has nothing to do with the song? I was such a fan of Knight Rider that my dad would pretend the oldsmobile had “turbo boost.” He would adjust a few knobs (which I now realize was the air conditioner) and floor it. Good times pops.
Quotable: “Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dreams, RED, gold and green, RED, gold and green.”
Something Current
Artist: Calvin Harris
Title: Feel So Close
Side Note: If you haven’t seen the video, then you might be confused as to why this is here. Luckily, it’s below for you to see. Blue is subtly all over this video (sky, blue tables at drive in, all the blue jean clothing, pom poms, etc.). It’s even is the cover of the album single (blue background, cowboy in blue jeans, horse with blue reigns — click here to view). Now that you know why it’s here, have you heard this song? Friggin awesome to run to. His monotone voice and techno beat makes the legs mooooooove.
Quotable: “And there’s no stopping us right now. I feel so close to you right now”
Something to Consider
Artist: Katy Perry
Title: Firework
Side Note: I know this was played all over the radio, but it was too perfect to pass up. C’mon, what’s more 4th of July themed than FIREWORK(s). This song is pretty cool, even if the chorus is corny. We all have something special inside of us that is unique. We just have to find it, embrace it and own it. Do YOUR thing!
Quotable: “You just gotta ignite the light, and let it shine. Just own the night like the 4th of July. ‘Cause baby you’re a firework”
That’s it, again, head over and check out everyone else’s post to score tips on some awesome music.
Here is the point where you tell me whether my songs were a bang or a bust?
Ya know, “bang” …because of 4th of July. Ugh. Sorry.
They are now all firmly planted in my head and I will finish my night at work humming Karma Chameleon…
Love the theme!
I can’t remember the last time I heard Culture Club! I will have that song stuck in my head for the entire day…I know it!
If I’m wearing grey today…does that make me a chameleon?
p.s. The Eagles make me think of my Dad and the road trips we took together to many TKD Competitions! You better believe I have loads of their songs on my playlist!
Love that Calvin Harris song – it’s definitely spin-able too, so I might add it to next week’s class.
Wow. The combination of Karma Chameleon and Knight Rider might have just done me in for the day. Loved them both growing up. And it seems like a good portion of us will be bopping our heads to Culture Club the rest of the day.
BANG BANG BANG—ON THE DOOR HUNNY–BANG BANG ON THE DOOR..YOU’RE WHAT!? TINNNNNNNNNNN ROOF, RUSTED.
