I’ve got a 50k this weekend (preview here) and running in the dirt for 7 hours is anything but sexy… which means we need to bring some sexy back (Make Music Again Justin) to our playlist. Here we go:
Oh ya, if you decide you want to join in on the fun, let me know. I’ll list all the PLAYLIST THURSDAY blogs here, like this one: Running on Ipsum: Beastie Boys
In case you needed it, here is the format:
- Something Old: These will be songs that are at least 5 years old. I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.
- Something Current: These will be songs that have been released within the past year. I know, but you have to give me some leeway here.
- Something to Consider: These will be songs that are not typically heard on the radio and may be by artists you’ve never heard of or considered running to. This is the wild card category, can be old or current.
Something Old
Artist: AC/DC
Title: You Shook Me All Night Long
Side Note: You know how it starts… nice and slow. But once that drum drops, it gets you moving. This is a must have and perfect for the half-way point in any run.
Quotable: “She was a fast machine. She kept her motor clean. She was the best damn woman I had ever seen.”
Something Current
Artist: Rhanna and Calvin Harris
Title: We Found Love
Side Note: Sorry for the long into on the music video… but this one is a great one to add. It isn’t going to kick up your pace and cause a sprint to the finish line, but it’s great to keep it going mid-run thanks to the techno m behind it.
Quotable: “No one will ever understand how much it hurts. You feel hopeless; like nothing can save you. And when it’s over, and it’s gone. You almost wish that you could have all that bad stuff back. So that you could have the good” — That’s good stuff right there. Describe the agony of a tough run much?
Something to Consider
Artist: Sexy and I Know It
Title: LMFAO
Side Note: If you haven’t seen this video, it’s a must see. Sadly, you have to sign in to view it, so you get the generic version below… if you want to see the awesomeness: WATCH IT HERE. Hilarious. Everyone I’m sure has heard this song and it’s a great one to have on you playlist to lighten up your run. Trust me, if you say “I’m Sexy and I know it” mid-race, runners around you will laugh. See, you just made another runner happy and that’s what is important.” Now Wiggle Wiggle Wiggle
Quotable: “When I walk in the spot (yeah), this is what I see (ok). Everybody stops and they staring at me
I got passion in my pants and I ain’t afraid to show it, show it, show it, show it”
It’s that time again… what did you think: Any of these on your list? Any you will or won’t add?
I totally just added Sexy and I know It to my list. Every time I hear that song, I think “This NEEDS to be on my playlist.” Thanks for the reminder when I could actually do something about it ;)
OK, love all of these. Seriously, how can you not pick up the pace with “We Found Love”? Plus it makes me all smiley when it comes on during a run as does LMFAO. I just laugh listening to that song.
“We Found Love ” is a good one. “Sexy and I Know It” also does have a killer beat.. I should add that to my own playlist. Thanks!
Love these songs..one of my favorites for getting going is Bleed it out by Lincoln Park….LOVE
Or Pain by Jimmy Eat World. Seriously…try not to run fast during those songs.
Great songs (other than AC/DC – I just can’t…I’ll keep my *real* opinion to myself).
Old: “BoB” by Outkast (Can you believe this song is 12 YEARS OLD?). It’s on every 5k playlist!
New: “We are Young” by Fun is my newest run song obsession, I feel like you and I have discussed this before…???
Something to consider: “I know it hurts” by Alter Bridge “We all fall sometimes it not the worst, I know it hurts..” Right? Right.
We found love! I love that song :)
Praise You by Fatboy Slim
Paint It Black by the Stones
Animal by Pearl Jam
Not Afraid by Eminem
I could go on… so much good music. Luckily, so many runs :)
Great songs! Right now, I am obsessed with Gotye- Somebody that I used to know. I actually extended my run over the weekend just to listen to it again. It’s so good! And if you watch the video of that song, be sure to check out the SNL video where they recreated it. It’s hilarious.
Oooh, fun. Okay, here’s some suggestions from my playlist “Songs For Running.”
Old: “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. It’s not particularly fast but it gets me in a mellow mindset and appreciating the sunshine, etc.
New: “Paradise” by Coldplay. Though the danger for me is forgetting to breathe because I’m too busy lip-syncing to the chorus. Para-para-paradise!
Something to Consider: Any song by Keane. Seriously, if you don’t know them, check them out. My favorite band. They have a brand-new album out and one great running song on that is “On the Road.”
I am ashamed to say that i BLAST sexy and I know it. Its my jam… My super guilty pleasure jam… haha ;)
My roommate was obsessed with the Rihanna song so, for awhile, it made me want to stab somebody. It does have a nice beat for running though.
