Maverick: I feel the need…
Maverick and Goose: …the need for speed!
This week we are talking about music to add to your Speed workouts… or music that makes you run faster.
Same rules:
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old
Artist: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts
Title: Bad Reputation
Side Note: One of those songs that you forget how much you like it until it comes on. It pops up in movies and you get that “oh ya, I like this song” thought. This is the perfect song to have pumping in your ears as you are weaving through people during a race. Weave, pass, weave, pass… SEE YA!
Quotable: “I don’t give a damn ’bout my reputation. You’re living in the past, it’s a new generation”
Something Current
Artist: Bruno Mars
Title: Locked Out of Heaven (Sultan and Ned Shepard Remix)
Side Note: I really liked Bruno Mars’ first album. I wasn’t too impressed with this single. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, just expected better maybe. This is a pretty good remix and I much prefer it over the radio version.
Quotable: “Cause you make me feel like, I’ve been locked out of heaven”
Something to Consider (NSFW)
Artist: T-Pain
Title: Nothin’
Side Note: Ok. Fact: I love running to T-Pain. The version I have on my playlist has E-40 on it, but I couldn’t find a decent version of it on You Tube. E-40 is also a great artist to have on your playlist for speed work. Yay Area!
Quotable: “And I’m a boss, get lost, Maybach, Rick Ross”
There you have it, some songs to add to your playlist for your next speed session.
In case you missed it, we had a pretty big announcement yesterday.
You can also check out other Playlist Thursday posts here (or add your own link).
What songs are on your “speedy” playlist?

These are great! I have to admit I love some Pit Bull for speed work!
Pit Bull is a must as well… almost added him this week.
Joan Jett–love it!
Almost went with “I love Rock n Roll”
Great. Joan is getting me out the door this morning.
Joan would kick down the door. :)
Ha, it’s great how varied your list is. :) I like to do speed work with David Guetta.
There are at least 5-6 David Guetta songs on my playlist right now. Great stuff.
I knew Bruno would grow on you ;)
Like a fungus… a nicely dressed fungus with a voice of gold. I really like his first album.
Bruno Mars is awesome! He’s so talented and unique!
I like his style…
Love this list. I love Bruno Mars. I tend to dislike a fair amount of his singles (although some are fantastic) because they are definitely geared to a top 40 (which I listen to) but I feel his albums are much more frank Sinatra/sting type music which I love 100% more.
Agree. The singles are never my favorite for him.
Just sharing bc I thought you might be amused- my son’s name is Maverick; he just watched Top Gun for the first time recently and was blown away by that moment in the movie. Apparently people have been asking him if he felt the need for speed (and where Goose was) all his life and he had no idea why :)
I haven’t heard Joan Jett in ages. Bruno Mars always seems to get me going (although I don’t think that I’ve heard either album in full) along with David Guetta. And Top Gun might be my all time favorite movie.
This is a great feature … even for those of us who don’t listen to music while running ;)
BR is my favorite Joan Jett song ever. You can’t help but go fast when you hear it.
The Bruno Mars song is good but only because there is a Police sample in it (despite his denials).
For me, I love some food AC/DC, Queen, Flo Rida or Rihanna for speed lately. One of my favorites though is The Donna’s “Take It Off”.
LOVE JOAN JETT! GREAT PICKS ALL AROUND! Love the speed work theme :)
