As a perfect follow up to last week’s happy childhood memories, how about Teenage Angst Songs? A great recommendation from @Dashinista over at diaryofadashingfashionista.com, let’s do songs that remind you of adolescence — can be good or bad.
These songs are not “angst”-y, they are more songs that remind me of being a teenager, more specifically high school. Enjoy.
Don’t forget to check out the Catalogue page to see other playlists or to upload your own!
Something Old: Songs that are at least 5 years old. (I know that isn’t too long to be considered old, but music turnover happens quickly.)
Something Current: Songs that have been released within the past year.
Something to Consider: This is the wild card category. Feel free to list any song: old, current, guilty pleasure, underground, whatever.
Something Old
Artist: Sublime
Title: Santeria
Side Note: This is a mellow song so it might not be your first choice for a workout song, but sometimes when I’m on a long run, I don’t need something to “pump me up,” I just need something to make the next 4 minutes go by and get me through a half mile. This one will do that.
Quotable: “I don’t practice Santeria. I ain’t got no crystal ball. Well I had a million dollars, but I I’d spend it all.”
Something Current
Artist: Spice Girls
Title: Wannabe
Side Note: Who can name all the spice girls… GO! — this one get’s tagged as current because they were just at the London Olympics. Let’s give some love to our friends across the pond.
Quotable: “Yo, I’ll tell you what I want, what I really really want. So tell me what you want, what you really really want.”
Something to Consider
Artist: Quad City DJs
Title: C’mon ‘N Ride It (the Train)
Side Note: Bonus points if you know how to do the dance… you know who you are.
Quotable: “C’mon, ride the train, hey ride it, woo woo”
How did we do this week? Do these songs take you back to the teens?

Love the Quad City DJs track – awesome!
Haha,The Spice Girls … Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, Melanie Brown, Geri Halliwell and Victoria Adams (now Beckham) – why do I know this?!
My sister was really young (like 5 or something) when they came out and right in the age group that had proper Spice Mania throughout their career. Spice Girls posters, CDs, videos, dolls, clothes – even shoes! She hates it when I remind her of her Spice Obsession now ;)
hmmm
uhoh
I think Im a little older? :)
DISCO, Baby.
zig-a zig ah!
Highschool dance anyone?
oh sublime. I have such fond memories of those songs. Love it!
Nice selection. Love ’em all and they all remind me of different points of my life. For the first song…I was just thinking the other day. You know how people were soooo upset about “pumped up kicks” because it encourages violence? What about Santeria and the whole “I have something for his punk ass” and junk? Apparently the PTA wasn’t so active back then?
Oh man. All these songs, some remind me of a middle school dance. I think my list will definitely include Nirvana. 90s teenage angst at its…finest.
Nirvana…I liked grunge for a period of time…sue me :)
Ahem. These would no way represent MY teen years, however, I do like them and remember them as an adult! (and love some Spice Girls in particular)
You & I must be about the same age because these were songs I listened to endlessly in high school! I LOVED Sublime! :)
I love teenage angst even as a 44 year old. So now I gave away the fact that these songs brought me back to my 30’s. I need 80’s music to bring me back to high school. I’m old school grandma.
I LOVE that you included spice girls. Brings me back to my childhood! haha
Love Sublime!!! And I’ll admit, I enjoyed the Spice Girls. :)
Love the Spice Girls mention!!
I’ve totally forgotten about Sublime. Umm, my teenage years were a bit more angsty than this – Nirvana, Pearl Jam, the Cure, Buffalo Tom…
Hahahahahaha, LOVE this!! And I do have a Pandora station that may or may not lead me to belt some “Wannabe” now and again. Love me some Sublime, too. And man…the train…heard that one at a few school dances. LOL
Oh no you didn’t feature Quad City DJs! I’m doin’ the dance right now!!!!
T.
Great choices this week!
I had the first Spice Girls single on cassette. Geez, there are people alive who don’t even know that word. ;)
you put the spice girls on here. hahahaha. that is so great
Yes they did! Especially wannabe and quad city djs! Ace of Base makes me think of my teens too :)
Spice Girls is a classic choice! Oh Posh Spice, tell me what you want, what you really really want…
Great list.
Quad City DJ’s, OMG how did I forget this “choo choo train”. Doin’ the dance now “I think I can, I think I can”. ahhh highschool.
I know all the songs this week!! Santeria is one of my fav songs…reminds me of my college years =)
And I agree with not needing pump-up songs! It’s awesome to have songs like that on the playlist, but it’s always better (for me) to have songs that mean something or just make me happy – regardless of how fast they are!
I was ..ahem…a little older than a teenage when these songs came out, but I love them, yes!
Awww, this post made me so happy! Love all those songs! I really miss Spice Girls! Seriously! I miss the girl and boy bands of my youth!
Yes…that brings me back. So sad…I work with kids who have no idea about any of these songs. They don’t even know Nsync : ) We were rocking out to Tiffany the other day and they were clueless!
