I feel fortunate that I have easy access to a city that not only welcomes an active lifestyle, but provides amazing views.
If I want to run near water? Done.
If I want to run across an iconic bridge? Done.
If I want to run some trails? Done.
If I want to have a playful run with the pup through a park? Also done.
San Francisco serves as constant motivation to get out there and run. The running community is always in full force in the city. From run clubs, to races, to organized runs at local running stores, there is always someone willing to run a few miles with you of you want the company.
Thank you San Francisco. Thank you for helping me to stay active and fit.
Is your city encouraging of an active lifestyle?

Certain spots in Tampa are ok for if you’re active, but I think that living here my whole life I like a change of scenery which is why I ALWAYS run on vacation. SF looks gorgeous. Hubs and I have talked about moving in a couple of years or so.
Love the pictures. I’ve never been to SF but you make my want to hop on a plane right now and go. :) We do have an active city here in Boston. You can run along the ocean or the Charles river. The mayor also sponsors a lot of fitness challenges and offers free classes some evenings.
So so so inspiring. Wow, I wish I had the opportunity to run in areas like this. I’ve only been to San Francisco once, but would LOVE to actually RUN around the city. Jealous.
I have to say, you are one lucky guy to live where you do. Hubs and I were out your way back in May and we totally fell in love with the city. Some of the nicest running routes I’ve ever been on and he rode some of the best roads he’s ever been on. Plus we had 5 straight days of sunshine. It was glorious.
Love the Lieutenant Dan one. haha Great pics. I’m going to SF next summer for the first time, and I’m already getting pumped about it.
I couldn’t help but type that and say it in Forrest Gumps’ voice.
Man, here’s the thing…we have the Blue Ridge Marathon…which if you ever do it, you better let me know. We have a run club and I always see runners out and about, and while that’s great, MAN I wish they marketed it more!!
YES!!! NYC definitely fosters an active, healthy lifestyle!!!
Love the pictures you shared. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about SF…we are hoping to visit some friends out there in the next year or so…I’d love to meet up with you for a run on some trails while I’m out there =)
Absolutely! The same goes for if I make it back to NYC. Congrats on the latest addition.
SF looks amazing, I’ve never been. I’m grateful that I live in Carlsbad and the city is always active. There are trails all over the place, bike paths, the OCEAN, and people are always outside doing stuff. Plus, lots of parks allow you to have your dog off-leash!
I don’t have that stuff in my city. So jealous of all of the great running places you go!!!
Awesome! I can not wait to get to NWM in October. It will be my first time in San Francisco and I am really looking forward to seeing and running in such a beautiful city.
You are going to love it… plus you get some firefighter and necklace action at the finish line. WIN!
I live in Salt Lake City and I’m steps away from some of the best trail running in the country. I am jealous of you though, I love running in San Francisco and always take an easy run when visiting. I can’t get away from the water, it’s fabulous. So is sea level, I feel like a ROCK STAR runner!
Very true. I would feel like LESS of a rock star up where you are.
STL is getting better. We’re not there yet but I feel fortunate enough to live on one of the most popular trails in the area. I can jump on, cross three different little towns and head back without driving at all.
I love San Fran. You can just feel that energy that you’re talking about. It’s awesome! Enjoy every run out there!
SF looks gorgeous! I would say Ann Arbor does offer all those different terrains, but on a much smaller scale. If I want to run on a trail or by water, I can, but I’ll also have to do about half my run on pavement.
Great that you have all the options available…
I’ve been to SF once and was able to run and bike through a lot of the area. Beautiful! My area supports being active although it has a lot of work to do in being more friendly to runners and bikers. It seems like there is a race every weekend, too!
very true for the bay area… races of all kinds.
You are a funny one. Love the captions. I admit that whenever I’m back in SF or the Bay Area in general, I feel like I need to be active because it’s gorgeous there and everyone else is doing it!! I know. Peer pressure. Works every time.
“Everywhere you look…”
I was surprised by Atlanta. I thought the heat would drive people indoors a lot more than up north, but there are people here as dedicated to running mid-summer as people up in NY were to running in the dead of winter. So even if it does get too hot for me sometimes, I can honestly say I’m lucky to run outdoors pretty much year-round!
I live in Oakland. I should check out your city sometime. Looks neat… ;-)
True fact: I have wanted to visit San Francisco since I was in high school. I’ve made it to San Diego and LA but San Francisco is still at the top of the list. At least I live on the same coast now, and I can live vicariously through your blog :)
I live in a small community of 620 people. You always see people out walking but I’d say there are only a handful of runners. I’d like to change that. We have a lot of great hiking trails that are perfect for running on.
